About

Associate Professor Anthony Cidoni  |  Director, Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist

Associate Professor Cidoni holds a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery and Master of Medicine (Psychiatry) degrees from the University of Melbourne and is a fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists. He is also a Member of the Victorian Faculty of Forensic Psychiatry, a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators, and an Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor for the Department of Psychiatry at Monash University. 

 

Associate Professor Cidoni has been a medical practitioner for 27 years, working in psychiatry for 26 years, a consultant psychiatrist for 21 years and specialising in forensic psychiatry for 18 years.

 

He is the Director of Perception Forensic Psychiatry, a psychiatry practice specialising in the preparation of court reports.

 

Associate Professor Cidoni is currently the Chief Psychiatrist for the Australian Capital Territory, and former Deputy Chief Psychiatrist for the state of Tasmania.

 

He is the former Director of Clinical Services – Community Operations for Forensicare, the Victorian Institute of Forensic Mental Health. The former Unit Head (Director of Clinical Services) of Dandenong Adult Mental Health Service at Monash Health, and former Deputy Director of Clinical Services and Director of Inpatient Services at St Vincent’s Mental Health Service. 

 

He is a former member of the Mental Health Review Board of Victoria (now the Mental Health Tribunal), and a former member of the Committee for Examinations, Royal Australian, and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists. 

 

Associate Professor Cidoni has trained and is also a trainer in the HCR-20 Violence Risk scale. He has trained in the RSVP and STATIC-99R Sexual Risk scales, and also trained in the VERA-2 Violent Extremism Risk Scale and Stalking Risk Profile. 

 

In both his roles at Forensicare and in his forensic private practice, he has prepared thousands of forensic reports and appeared in court in all jurisdictions, including in fitness and mental impairment matters.
